As we said in the Youth Clubs and Jellybean section, people who are serious about community work don’t do it for accolades – the reward is being able to effect change, and seeing first-hand how that change significantly improves people’s lives.
But it’s impossible not to feel a small flush of pride when one of our peers chooses to bestow an honour on us in recognition of the work we do.
The excellent work of local volunteers and voluntary sector organisations was celebrated at a Hollywood-styled VOSCARS awards ceremony in Motherwell Concert Hall, Tuesday 1 November 2016. The event was organised by Voluntary Action North Lanarkshire on behalf of the North Lanarkshire Voluntary Sector Partnership Group and saw an impressive 600 people attend.
The awards spanned thirteen categories to recognise voluntary sector organisations and partners of the voluntary sector who have demonstrated outstanding support to communities within North Lanarkshire.
Glenboig Neighbourhood House was in the final running for four awards, winning the Social Enterprise Award (yippee!!!), and all 250 nominees received personal VOSCAR trophies for projects well run.
Congratulations and thank you once more to all our hard-working staff and volunteers who helped us win this great award. It reminds us that our outreach work does make a difference to people in our community and that other organisations like us acknowledge this.
